CHENNAI: The food safety department have seized spurious soft drinks worth 80,970 across the city since Wednesday. The raids were conducted in the various parts of the city after a TOI
report on Wednesday about fake soft drinks firms flourishing in the
city. Food safety officials had conducted raids in nearly 200 shops in
T-Nagar, Broadway, Velachery, Teynampet. Officials seized had nearly 1,000 bottles of spurious soft drinks
and more than 3,000 packets of coloured water. Officials said that they
have decided to intensify raids across the city in the next few days.
The officials said that several vendors are selling spurious drinks by
duplicating the label and logos of major brands. The department is also
planning to spread awareness among vendors about fake products that are
flooding the market.
