Two branded food products withdrawn from market in Thiruvananthapuram

The Commissioner of Food Safety has asked two units manufacturing and distributing dosa batter in the city under the brand names ‘Easy Cook’ and ‘Fresh’ to shut shop immediately as these were found to be functioning in unhygienic conditions, posing a threat to food safety.The owner of the brand ‘Easy Cook’ was charged a fine of Rs.50,000, while the person owning the ‘Fresh’ brand was charged a fine of Rs. 10,000Commissioner of Food Safety Biju Prabhakar, in a press note issued here on Monday, said the manufacturers had been asked to recall both brands from the market and appealed to the people not to use these food products as these were found to be manufactured in an unhygienic environment.

 
Inspection
Four squads of the Health Inspectors of city Corporation inspected eateries in the city on Monday.In the Kazhakkuttom circle, five eateries were raided. Notices were served on Hotel Salkara, Kazhakkuttom; Alfiya Mohammed restaurant, Chanthavila; Udayapuram hotel, Kattayikonam; Shyamala Bakery and Fast Food, Kazhakkuttom; and Al-saj, Kazhakkuttom.In Thiruvallom zone, notice was issued to BM Tea shop.Eight eateries under Sreekanteswaram circle were inspected and six were served notices to improve hygiene. These include Rohini hotel, Sreekanteswaram; Hotel Ganesh Bhavan, Thakaraparambu; Tea stall, Thakaraparambu; Sindhu Hotel, Vanchiyoor and Abhinaya hotel, Vanchiyoor.Eleven hotels under the Medical College circle were raided and notices issued for improving hygiene standards. These are Saraswati Bhavan, Medical College; Hotel Moon City, Ulloor; Hotel Sriram, Ulloor; Hotel Gouri, Ulloor; Hotel Aditya, Ulloor; Hotel Food Palace, Ulloor; Hotel Veettamma, Chalakuzhi; Hotel Ansari; Cochin Restaurant; Hotel Arun; and Hotel Appoos, all at Murinjapalam.Apart from examining the quality of food being served, health inspectors have asked restaurant owners to improve the general hygiene levels in their establishments.Establishments that do not comply with the instructions in the notice and make improvements within the prescribed time period will be issued closure notice, the Corporation officials said in a press note issued here on Monday.
